| 2010 Membership Info | January 23, 2008 (updated April 28, 2010) |
Sign up now for the 2010 season!
We are planning for 175 to 200 members in 2010; there is a waiting list but shares are available if you act soon.
Returning Members have until February 13 to renew at last year's prices ($360, $600). To be guaranteed a share, they should send me an email stating their intentions and mail a deposit of at least one-third the appropriate amount (i.e., $120 or $200) by that date. After Feb. 13, the new share prices apply to all members!
Share prices for New Members in 2010 are as follows:
- Large share is $630 ($730 home delivery) (1-1/9 bushel box, topping out at 25+lbs, suitable for 3+ person family)
- Regular share $375 ($475 home delivery) (5/9 bushel box, half the large size, suitable for 1-3 people).
New and returning members can secure shares now until June 1 by sending a deposit of one-third the price of the desired share ($125 or $210) along with the information asked for below. Make and send your payments to the given name and address.
To join RGG this season, please send the information below to Thor at redgoosegardens@gmail.com; Red Goose Gardens, PO Box 157, Shelly, MN 56581; phone 218.886.6133.
- Contact info: your name(s), mailing and email address(es), and phone number(s)
- Share and delivery of choice: Regular or Large; drop site, farm pick-up or home delivery
The sooner I hear from you the better your chances are to secure a share of the upcoming season of fresh and local produce! Persons wanting home delivery ($100 extra for either share size) please add $30 to your deposit. Balances are due by June 1. (Please ask about other payment plans if those options are untenable.)
The share size you should get depends on your diet; think about the make up of your diet before deciding. Some couples who are vegetarians/vegans, for example, can easily eat up the Large size, while many families are happy with the Regular size. Members often find themselves sharing with friends during the season; consider who you might share with if you have or want to.
You also have the option to exchange part or all of the share cost for your labor on the farm or at the designated drop sites. Whether or not you want to help with chores, I encourage members, their families and friends to visit the farm.
I also recruit three to four paid interns each season; if you know able bodied persons who might like to experience sustainable produce farming, please tell them about RGG.
We have in the past had surplus produce of decent quality to sell to CSA members who want to preserve more of the harvest. Whether a specific crop’s production allows this depends on a number of factors; sometimes it’s determined by the kind of weather we have. Please ask about the crop(s) you are interested in during the growing season.
We will be delivering to the Fargo-Moorhead and Grand Forks-East Grand Forks areas. There are three drop sites in the FM area: one downtown, one in south Fargo, and one in south Moorhead near Concordia. The GF drop site will likely again be at Amazing Grains.
If you're new to Community Supported Agriculture or Red Goose Gardens, here's more information to whet your appetite.
Thor and the Red Goose Gardens team grow vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs (using organic principles) and market directly to households and food businesses in the Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks and other areas. Families and individuals can access these products through membership in RGG's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.
The tangible benefits of membership with RGG include getting a supply of local, naturally grown fruits & veggies delivered to you over the season. Throughout the 16-20 week season, a box arrives at a site near you containing produce items harvested fresh from the gardens. Along with the produce, we send out a newsletter that conveys general farm news and recipes/ideas for using the produce.
By becoming a member of Red Goose Gardens, you…
Get quality produce that:
• Is picked at its peak of ripeness for maximum flavor and nutrition.
• Includes heirloom varieties and interesting items not typically available.
• Is grown in accordance with National Organic Program standards.
Know you're supporting a local farm that:
• Keeps money and jobs in the local economy.
• Reduces waste and pollution from non-local foods’ long-distance transport.
Foster agricultural practices that:
• Allow biodiversity to thrive – the 40-acre farm plays host to a wide spectrum of wildlife.
